Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The auto ignition temperature of Olaflur was determined to be 400 °C (i.e. 673.15 K), the auto-ignition temperature of solvent-free Olaflur was determined to be 390 °C (i.e. 663.15 K).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
400 °C

Additional information

The preliminary results indicate that the auto-ignition temperature of Olaflur is around 400 °C.

During the main test the auto ignition temperature was determined to be 400 °C (i.e. 673.15 K)

Repetition of auto-ignition temperature determination with solvent-free Olaflur:

In order to eliminate a possible effect of ethanol and water the measured sample was treated in the following manner: The Olaflur sample was put in a rotary evaporator and the residual solvents (ethanol and water) were distilled off under vacuum of 0.08 mbar and 85 °C. After 11 hours no more weight loss could be observed. The total loss of weight was 11.4 %. With this sample the following preliminary results were obtained: 380 °C = no ignition, 400 °C = ignition

During the main test the auto-ignition temperature of solvent-free Olaflur was determined to be 390°C (i.e. 663.15 K).

Comparison of the results

The difference of 10 °C (390 °C vs. 400 °C) shows that ethanol does not have a significant influence on auto-ignition temperature. It is more likely that the lesser water content makes the ignition of the substance easier.
