Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 21d NOEC reproduction of 268 µg/L for daphnia is determined in a test according to OECD TG 211 (GLP). The 21d EC50 for parental mortality was 465 µg/L in the same test. The NOEC is based on active ingredient.

Additional information

The Daphnia magna Reproduction Test with natural river water (Semi-Static, 21 d) of Quaternary ammonium compounds, C12-18-alkylbis(hydroxyethyl)methyl, chlorides was conducted according to OECD 211 (Noack, 2010).10 test organisms were used per concentration and control. At test start they were 2 to 24 hours old.All concentrations and control were analytically verified at four sampling dates with LC-MS/MS.

The reproduction was not significantly increased or decreased at exposure concentrations ranging from 10 – 270 µg/L. At the highest test concentration of 810 µg/L no reproduction was observed due to mortality of the adult daphnids. The NOEC reproduction is therefore 270 µg/L.

Significant adult mortality (100%) was observed at the highest test concentration , while in the other test concentrations and in the control no significant mortality occurred. The EC50 for parental mortality is 468 µg/L (95% C.I. 270 – 810 µg/L) calculated as the geometric mean of the lowest concentration causing 100% mortality (810 µg/l) and the highest concentration causing 0% mortality (270 µg/L) because only 0% and 100% mortality was observed in the study.

The NOEC reproduction was 270 µg/L determined after 21 days. The EC50parental mortality was 468 µg/L determined after 21 days of exposure. The latter value is used as worst-case acute EC50 for aquatic invertebrates in the hazard assessment in the absence of reliable acute data. The effects are expressed as nominal values because the tests were performed with river water as they are intended to be used in an evaluation of the environmental risks based on the Bulk approach. The NOEC for reproduction is 268 µg/L based on active ingredient (99.4%).
