Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

According to the EPIwin degradation model, dipropylene glycol methyl ether will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes. Half-lives based on reaction with hydroxyl radicals range from 5.2 to 7.6 h, averaging 6.5 h.

According to the EPIwin degradation model, tripropylene glycol methyl ether will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes. Half-lives based on reaction with hydroxyl radicals range from 0.169 days.

For the sodium methanolate component, complete conversion to sodium hydroxide and methanol in the environment is assumed. Methanol is moderately rapidly degraded by reaction with hydroxyl radicals with a measured rate constant of 9.44 x 10^-13 cm3/(molecules-sec). This corresponds to a half-life in the troposphere for methanol of 17 to 18 days.

No hydrolysis rate constant is available for dipropylene glycol methyl ether or tripropylene glycol methyl ether as both are readily biodegradable, and according to REACH Annex VIII, hydrolysis testing is not needed for substances that are readily biodegradable. Methanol, the hydrolytic breakdown product of sodium methanolate, is also readily biodegradable and thus no hydrolysis testing is required.
