First-aid measures

DESCRIPTION OF FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation -

If inhaled, remove to fresh air. Rinse nose and mouth with water. Artificial respiration if needed. Seek medical attention if symptoms occur.

Skin contact -

Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with soap and rinse with water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

Eye contact -

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Contact a physician if symptoms occur.

Ingestion -

Wash out mouth with water. Seek medical attention.

MOST IMPORTANT SYMPTOMS AND EFFECTS, BOTH ACUTE AND DELAYED

Low exposure -

Irritating on skin, in eyes and to upper respiratory tract.

High exposure -

In general for aromatic nitro compounds: methaemoglobinaemia with headache, cardiac dysrhythmias, drop in blood pressure, dyspnoea and spasm (sign: blue discoloration of the blood).

Other hazardous properties cannot be excluded. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

INDICATION OF ANY IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION AND SPECIAL TREATMENT NEEDED

Symptomatic treatment.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA

Suitable extinguishing media -

Use water spray, dry chemical or carbon dioxide as appropriate for surrounding fire and materials.

Unsuitable extinguishing media -

No limitations given for this substance.

SPECIAL HAZARDS ARISING FROM THE SUBSTANCE OR MIXTURE

Combustible, but not flammable. Airborne dust may cause combustible/explosive dust clouds. In case of fire toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO) may be formed.

ADVICE FOR FIREFIGHTERS

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact wiht skin and eyes. Prevent fire extinguishing water from contaminating the surface water or ground water.

Accidental release measures

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS, PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

User recommended personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection equipment, during removal of spillages. Avoid raising dust.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS

Prevent spillage from contaminating surface water or ground water.

METHODS AND MATERIAL FOR CONTAINMENT AND CLEANING UP

A small spill may be handled with water moisten disposable cloth and placed in container for chemical waste. A larger spill should be collected and placed in container for disposal. Use recommended personal protective equipment. Wash the spill site with water, after completed pick up.

Handling and storage

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING

Avoid dust generation and inhalation of dust. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Ensure good ventilation. Eye wash facilities should be available. The material may form flammable dust clouds in air. Dust clouds may be sensitive to ignition by electrostatic discharge and d other ignition sources. Ensure good earthing of equipment and personnel.

CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE, INCLUDING ANY INCOMPATIBILITES

Keep container/package tightly closed at normal room conditions +15 to 25C.

Exposure controls / personal protection

CONTROL PARAMENTERS

To the best of our knowledge, defined occupational exposure limit values are not available.

EXPOSURE CONTROL

Appropriate engineering controls -

Use appropriate controls (eg. containment, local exhaust ventilation) as specified in a workplace risk assessment. Technical measures and appropriate operations should be given priority over the use of personal protective equipment. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Personal protective equipment -

Eyeface protection - Use safety goggles. A device for eyewash should be available.

Skin protection - Handle wiht gloves. The selected gloves must comply with the specifications in EC Directive 89/686/EEC and the related standard EN374.

Protective clothing - Impervious clothing. The type should be selected according to concentrations and quantities of the hazardous substance handled at the specific workplace.

Respiratory protection - Required when dusts are generated. Where risk assessment shows that an air-purifying respirator is appropriate, use filter fo type P3 (EN143) or N100 (NIOSH) or types recommeneded in applicable federal, state and naational legislation.

Environmental exposure controls - Do not empty into drains.

Stability and reactivity

REACTIVITY

No known reactivity hazards under normal conditions.

CHEMICAL STABILITY

The substance is chemically stable under standard ambien conditions (+15 to +25C).

POSSIBILITY OF HAZARDOUS REACTIONS AND CONDITIONS TO AVOID

Avoid exposure to moisture.

INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS

Strong oxidants, strong bases and amines,

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS

Carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Disposal considerations

WASTE TREATMENT METHODS

Dispose waste at authorized plant, in accordance with Directive 2008/98/EC and/or applicable federal, state, local or national legislation. Disposal could be sent for external waste handling company for incineration. Do not empty into drains or water courses.
