Conclusion: The substance Sorbitan, octanoate (2:3) (CAS 91844 -53 -0) is surface active and reduces the surface tension of water in a significant way. At 25 °C water has a surface tension of 71.79 mN/m. The analogue substance glycerol monolaurate (CAS 142 -18 -7) reduces the ST of water at 20 °C to 57.9 mN/M (c = 1 mg/L) and to 41.6 mN/m (c = 4 mg/L).

For Sorbitan, octanoate (CAS 91844 -53 -0) a test reveals a surface tension of 24.7 mN/m without reporting the concentration. Therefore it is concluded that Sorbitan, octanoate (CAS 91844 -53 -0) is surface active in the range of 24.7 - 57.9 mN/m at room temperature.
