Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 Annex VII section 7.3 and Annex XI of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH) and ECHA guidance on IR/CSA Chapter R.7.1.3.4 (as of November 2012) the study does not need to be conducted as the substance decomposes before boiling. Morpholinium sulphamate is the reaction product of morpholine and sulphamidic acid and thus is classified as organic salt. The physical properties of the starting material were as follows: Sulphamidic acid decomposes on melting at temperatures above 205 °C. The boiling point was predicted to be 600 °C. Morpholine has a melting point of -4.9 °C and a boiling point of 128.3 °C. The melting temperature of morpholinium sulphamate was determined to be 118-121 °C. Due to the ionic bonding and the resulting intermolecular interaction the melting point of morpholinium sulphamate is clearly higher than the melting point and close to the boiling point of morpholine. It was predicted that the boiling point of morpholinium sulphamate is above the decomposition temperature of sulphamidic acid. Thus, the determination of the study was scientifically unjustified as up to the decomposition temperature of sulphamidic acid at 205 °C no boiling point for morpholinium sulphamate was expected.
