First-aid measures

General Advice:

Consult a physician.  Show a safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.

If Inhaled:

If inhaled, move person into fresh air.  If not breathing, give artificial respiration.  Consult a physician.

In Case of Skin Contact:

Wash off with soap and plenty of water.  Take victim immediately to hospital.  Consult a physician.

In Case of Eye Contact:

Flush eyes with plenty of water.  Consult a physician.

If Swallowed:

Do NOT induce vomiting.  Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.  Rinse mouth with water.  Consult a physician.

Most Important Symptoms and Effects - both Acute and Delayed:

Material is extremely destructive to tissue of the mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract, eyes, and skin.

Cough, shortness of breath, headache, nausea

Indication of any Immediate Medical Attention and Special Treatment Needed:

No information available.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA

Suitable Extinguishing Media:

Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Special hazards Arising from the Substance:

Carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides (NOx)

Advice for Firefighters:

Wear self contained breathing apparatus for fire fighting if necessary.

Further Information:

Use water spray to cool unopened containers.

Accidental release measures

Peronal Precaution, Protective Equipment and Emergency Procedures:

Wear respiratory protection.  Avoid breathing vapours, mist or gas.  Ensure adequate ventilation.  Remove all sources of ignition.  Evacuate personnel to safe areas. .Beware of vapours accumulating to form explosive concentrations.  Vapours can accumulate in low areas.

Environmental Precautions:

Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.  Do not let product enter drains.  Discharge into the environment must be avoided.

Methods and Materials for Containment and Cleaning Up:

Contain spillage, and then collect with an electrically protected vacuum cleaner or by wet-brushing and place in container for disposal according to local regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for Safe Handling:

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.  Avoid inhalation of vapour or mist.

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.  Take measured to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge.

Conditions for Safe Storage, Including any Incompatibilities:

Store in a cool place.  Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.  Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage.

Store under intert gas.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Appropriate Engineering Controls:

Avoid contact with skin eyes and clothing.  Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Eye/Face Protection:

Wear a face shield with chemical splash goggles unless wearing full-face respiratory equipment.  The applicable European Standard can be found in EN 166.

Hand Protection:

When handling this product, the use of chemical gauntlets that provide protection from corrosive substances is required.  The choice of work glove depends on the work conditions and what chemicals are handled, but positive experience has been had, under light handling conditions, using gloves made from butyl-rubber.  Gloves should be replaced immediately if signs of degradation are observed.

Recommended gloves for handling during light handling of allylamine are KCL Butoject Butyl Gloves - CE approved to Class BS EN 374:1994, BS EN 388:1994.  Breakthrough times for these gloves of >30 minutes is quoted by the manufacturer based on the permeation test.

Skin Protection:

When handling this product, the use of a chemical resistant suit and rubber boots is required.  The applicable European Standard can be found in EN ISO ISO 20345.

Respiratory Protection:

Where risk assessment shows that air-purifying respirators are appropriate the use of a half face filter mask or air supplied breathing apparatus is recommended.  A suitable filter material depends on the amount and type of chemical being handled.  Consider the use of filter type: A-B-E-K,  The applicable European Standard can be found in EN 140, EN 137, EN 143, and EN 14387.  In the event of emergency or planned entry into unknown concentrations a positive pressure, full-facepiece SCBA should be used.  If respiratory protection is required, institute a complete respiratory protection program including selection, fit testing, training, maintenance and inspection.

Disposal considerations

Waste Treatment Methods:

Waste material must be disposed of in accordance with the Directove on waste 2008/98/EC as well as other national and local regulations.  Leave chemicals in original containers.  No mixing with other waste.  Handle uncleaned containers like the product itself.
