Description of key information

In the assessment of lithium neodecanoate, read-across to the assessment entities lithium cations and neodecanoate is applied since the ions of lithium neodecanoate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment.

Regarding the toxic potential of lithium ions to microorganisms, 3-h EC10 and EC50 values of 22.95 and 52.50 mg Li/L were derived in a study with the soluble lithium salt LiOH on respiration inhibition of activated sludge.

Regarding the toxicity of neodecanoic acid, an inhibition of nitrification was not observed at the highest test concentration resulting in a NOEC ≥ 200 mg/L neodecanoic acid.

In sum, lithium neodecanoate seems to have some potential for toxicity to aquatic microorganisms.
