Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the assessment of lithium neodecanoate, read-across to the assessment entities lithium cations and neodecanoate is applied since the ions of lithium neodecanoate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment.

Based on a long-term toxicity test with Zebrafish (Danio rerio) and a soluble lithium salt (LiOH) according to OECD TG 210, 34-d NOEC and LOEC values of 2.87 mg Li/L and 4.03 mg Li/L were determined.

The14-d NOEC of 2.22 mg/L neodecanoic acid for growth of Oncorrhynchus mykiss supported by the chronic Value (ChV) of 1.6 mg/L (QSAR-based estimate) for fish indicate a low potential for long-term toxicity of neodecanoate to fish.

Thus, lithium neodecanoate has a low potential for long-term toxicity to fish.

Additional information

In addition, toxicity data are available on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) from studies rated “reliable 3” due to methodological deficiencies. Soluble lithium salts (LiF, Li2CO3) were applied, yielding a 66-d LOEC of 3.3 mg Li/L (sac-fry survival, testing with LiF), a 66-d LOEC of 2.3 mg Li/L (sac-fry survival, testing with lithium carbonate) and LOEC values between 0.6 mg Li/L and 1.3 mg Li/L (flow-through exposure, mortality, testing with lithium carbonate), further pointing to a relatively low potential forlong-term toxicity of lithium ions to fish.
