Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
PRINCIPLE OF THE TEST:
A volume of about 8 cm3 of the solid test item is placed in an oven at room temperature. The temperature / time curve (see Figure No. 1 in the attached illustration) relating to conditions in the
centre of the sample is recorded while the temperature of the oven increases to 400 °C (at least) at a rate of about 0.5 °C/min.
The temperature of the oven at which the sample temperature reaches 400 °C by self heating is called the self-ignition temperature for the purpose of this test.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)

RESULTS

- Assay No. 1 (Please see Graph No.1 in the attached background material section)

Duration of the test               781 min

Rate                                    0.50 °C/min

Observations:                     At the start of the test, the test item was a white powder.

At the end of the test, the cube was empty.

- Assay No. 2 (Please see Graph No.2 in the attached background material section)

Duration of the test              791 min

Rate                                   0.50 °C/min

Observations:              At the start of the test, the test item was a white powder.

At the end of the test, the cube was empty.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
No relative self ignition temperature of the test item was observed up to the melting point at about 175 - 180 °C.
