Results and discussion

Any other information on results incl. tables

In aqueous solutions, 1,3-benzothiazole-2-thiol can be oxidised in presence of oxygen to 2,2`-dithiobisbenzothiazole. Analysed test solutions containing 84 mg/l 1,3-benzothiazole-2-thiol in 0.5 M phosphate buffer and 10% tetrahydrofuran at pH 6.5. After 2 hours reaction time 60% of 1,3-benzothiazole-2-thiol was converted to 2,2`-dithiobisbenzothiazole. The results reveal that the equilibrium between 1,3-benzothiazole-2-thiol and 2,2`-dithiobisbenzothiazole is highly influenced by the redox status of the medium.
