Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Experimental studies investigating the abiotic hydrolysis of Glycerol monoisostearate (CAS 66085-00-5) are not available. However, in accordance with Annex VIII, column 2, 9.2.2.1. of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, testing is not required since the substance is readily biodegradable. The composition of the substance includes the mono- di- and tri-glyceride of isostearate. For each of these forms, the iso-branching may be present as a methyl-, ethyl or propyl-branching, although the branching is always simple. For the calculation of the hydrolysis only the methyl branching was considered since the calculation with QSAR (HYDROWIN v2.00) revealed very similar or equal results for the branching types. QSAR calculations for the main components conducted with HYDROWIN v2.00 resulted in half-lives of 1.51 – 7.71 years (at pH 7) and 55.14 days to 281.6 days (at pH 8) respectively (Birkhofer, 2014). The calculated half-lives indicate that hydrolysis is not relevant for the substance.
