Short-term Toxicity to Fish:

The aim of this study was to determine the acute lethal toxicity (14 day LC50) of octanal to the guppy and to describe the toxicity of t through the use of quantitative structure-activity relationships. The 14 day LC50 of octanal was determined in a semi-static experiment with renewal of the test solutions daily. Poecilia reticulata were exposed to at least 5 concentrations, geometrically increasing with a factor of 1.8. The 14 -day LC50 for octanal was found to be 1.79 µmoles/L equivalent to 7.9 mg/L.

Short-term Toxicity to Invertebrates

Two acute (OECD 202) Daphnia tests were conducted with surrogate / read across molecules heptanal and nonanal provinding

48 -hour EC50 values of 4.13 and 1.54 mg/L respectively. The test with nonanal also provided a NOEC (immobility) value of

0.706 mg/L

Algal inhibition assay

Three 72 -hour algal inhibition assays (OECD 201) were conducted with surrogate / read across molecules heptanal and nonanal. The lowest 72 -hour EC50 based on growth rate was found to be 2.9 mg/L. The corresponding NOEC was 0.92 mg/L.

Activated Sludge

An activated sludge respiration test was conducted in accordance with OECD 209 Aldehyde C1- Decyclic Food grade in ethanol a 3 -hour EC50 of 70 mg/L and a NOEC of 31.6 mg/L were determined.
