Individual Results of the Measurement
of the Surface Tension
The surface tension values of
the two aqueous solutions of the test item were determined. The
measurement was carried out at 20 °C ± 0.5
°C.
A correction factor (Harkins & Jordan) is included.
The age of the test solutions at the beginning of the measurement was
28.75 hours for the Test solution 1 and 30.0 hours for the Test solution
2. The age of the test solution is defined as the period of time from
the preparation of the solution to the recording of the surface tension
value. The measured data are given in Table below.

Mean (experiments 1 and 2): σmean = 56.52 mN/m
Standard deviation: 0.91 mN/m
Relative standard deviation: 1.6 %
The mean value, multiplied by the calibration
factor (F=1.0125) results in:
σ =
σmean ·
F = 57.2 mN/m
Final Result
The surface tension of two
aqueous solutions of test item, technical substance, was determined
using the OECD harmonized ring method according to the OECD Guideline
115 and European Commission Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Annex,
Part A, method A.5.
The solubility of the test item in water is
below 1 g/L (178 mg/L in distilled water at 20 °C, flask method).
According to the OECD Guideline and the EC Regulation saturated
solutions were prepared and then diluted to 90 % of the saturation
concentration. The concentrations of the two solutions were determined
by HPLC analyses (results: 86 mg/L for Test solution 1 and 98 mg/L for
Test solution 2).
The surface tension of the aqueous solution of
test item, technical substance, was: σ =
57.2 mN/m at 20 °C
