Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
diethylammonium chloride
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
other: solid, crystalline
Reference substance:
diethylammonium chloride
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for the substance is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017).

Persistence

The substance is readily biodegradable based on the results of one study conducted with the analogue substance according to OECD 301 C. Thus, the substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistency and it is not considered as persistent (P) or very persistent (vP).

Bioaccumulation

The substance has a very low log Kow of -1.3 (OECD 117). Thus, it does not meet the screening criterion for bioaccumulation and it is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).

Toxicity

Long-term toxicity results from the analogue substance are available for two trophic levels (aquatic invertebrates and algae). Algae was the most sensitive organism with an ErC0 (96 h,Selenastrum capricornutum) of 2 mg/L. Moreover, the test substance is not classified for toxicity according to the criteria in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 based on Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further ATPs. Thus, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 are not met and the test substance is not considered to meet the T criterion.

In conclusion, the test substance is not considered to be PBT nor vPvB.
