PHMA is reported to be a clear colourless liquid at 20°C and 1013 hPa (visual assessment during test on physicochemical properties (boiling point)).

The melting point of PHMA is reported to be 18.5°C.

The boiling point of PHMA is reported to be 227.5°C at 1013 hPa (determined according to OECD Guideline 103, adopted 27th July 1995, and EU Method A.2, May 2008, Siwoloboff method). At 232 °C, a slight discolouration to pale orange indicated the beginning of thermal decomposition.

The density of PHMA is reported to be in the range of 1.0542 to 1.056 g/cm³ at 20°C (no details on method available in the publications). 

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, a granulometry test does not need to be conducted as the substance is a liquid.

The vapour pressure of PHMA was determined according to OECD guideline 104, adopted 23 March 2006 and EU method A.4, May 2008.The vapour pressure of PHMA is reported to be 0.5 Pa at 20°C, 1.1 Pa at 25°C and 24.5 Pa at 50°C.

The n-Octanol/Waterpartition coefficient (log Kow) of PHMA was determined according toOECD Guideline 117, adopted 13 April 2004, and EU Method A.8, 30 May 2008; HPLC method. The log Kow was 2.7 at 23.3°C.

The water solubility of PHMA was determined according to OECD Guideline 105, adopted 27th July 1995 and EU Method A.6, 30 May 2008; flask method.The water solubility of PHMA is 519 mg/mL (pH 6.3) at 20°C.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII,surface tension testing does not need to be conducted. Based on structure, no surface activity is expected. The test substance is not used as detergent.

The flash point of PHMA was determined according to EU test method A.9, 30 May 2008 (closed cup). The flash point of PHMA is reported to be 97°C at 1013 hPa.

The auto-ignition temperature of PHMA was determined according to EU test method A.15, 30 May 2008, and DIN 51794). The auto-ignition temperature of PHMA is reported to be 470 °C at 999.7 hPa.

According to REACH Regulation (Annex XI, 1.), the study on flammability  does not need to be conducted if the available data are sufficient for assessment. For PHMA, tests on flash point and auto-ignition are available. Pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected based on a consideration of the structure of the substance.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, explosive properties testing does not need to be conducted as there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties in the molecule.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, oxidising properties testing does not need to be conducted on the basis of chemical structure.
