Based upon the assessment described in the sections below PHMA is not PBT or vPvB.
Persistence Assessment
In an OECD Guideline 310D (Ready biodegradability - CO2 in sealed vessel (Headspace)) test PHMA achieved >79% degradation at 28 days passing the 10 day window confirming that it was readily biodegradable and therefore does not meet the criteria for it to be regarded as Persistent or very Persistent. Moreover, PHMA is not very absorptive (log Koc <2.4) revealing that soil is not the target compartment for this chemical.
Conclusion on P/vP properties.
It can therefore be concluded that on the basis of the above mentioned criteria that PHMA is not persistent (not P) and not very persistent (not vP) in the environment.
