Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aluminum alkoxides (alcoholates) such as Aluminium sec-butylate are liquid compounds of covalent character. They are readily soluble in hydrocarbons, but sparingly soluble in alcohols. Hydrolysis with water occurs readily, giving aluminum hydroxide and the corresponding alcohol.

Additional information

In Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry aluminum alkoxides (alcoholates) such as Aluminium sec-butylate are described being liquid compounds of covalent character. They are readily soluble in hydrocarbons, but sparingly soluble in alcohols. Hydrolysis with water occurs readily, giving aluminum hydroxide and the corresponding alcohol. Given the hygroscopic nature of these substances and as a result limited stability in the environment, further testing is not required and appropriate.
