PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
Diiron titanium pentaoxide
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
Diiron titanium pentaoxide
PBT status:
PBT assessment does not apply
Justification:

In accordance with Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 (REACH) and the ECHA Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment Chapter R.11 (PBT/vPvB assessment), section R.11.2.1 the PBT and vPvB criteria are applicable to organic substances including organometallic compounds, but not to inorganic substances. Diiron titanium pentaoxide is an inorganic substance and the assessment of PBT and vPvB properties does hence not apply.

Conclusion on Persistance: Not vP and not P

As the substance is inorganic and sparingly soluble in water a study on biodegradability and hydrolysis is technically not feasible.

Conclusion on Bioaccumulation: not vB and not B

Based on the composition of diiron titanium pentaoxide and its inert character, bioaccumulation is not likely (please refer to IUCLID section 5.3.1). Thus, the substance is not considered to be very bioaccumulative (vB) or bioaccumulative (B).

Conclusion on Toxicity: not T

The criterion for toxicity is not fulfilled, since the NOEC for aquatic organisms is >= 0.01 mg/L (72-h NOEC for the growth rate of algae was 10.1 mg/L); and the substance is not classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction according to directive 67/548, or carcinogenic, germ cell mutagenic or toxic for reproduction according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008; and there is no evidence of chronic toxicity according to Directive 67/548/EEC, or specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure according to Regulation 1272/2008.

Overall conclusion on PBT and vPvB

Based on the available information, the substance is not PBT / vPvB according to Regulation (EC) 1907/2006.
