Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Photoreduction of the test substance, 3,5-lutidine, in the presence of aqueous sodium borohydride results in a dihydro product (4,6-dimethyl-2-azabicyclo[2.2.0]hex-5-ene) in a controlled laboratory setting.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the supporting study, Wilzbach and Rausch (1970) demonstrated the photoreduction of pyridines, picolines and several lutidines in a controlled laboratory setting.  The photolysis of the test substance (3,5-lutidine) in aqueous NaBH4 yielded a dihydro product (4,6 -dimethyl-2 -azabicyclo[2.2.0]hex-5-ene). Photohydration of pyridine to 5-amino-2,4-pentadienal, and

photohydration of picolines and several lutidines to derivatives of 5-amino-2,4-pentadienal, were also observed.
