Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
19 October 2011 - 20 March 2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
According to EU method A.9 and DIN EN ISO 2719
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO 2719 (Determination of flash point - Pensky-Martens closed cup method)
Version / remarks:
2002. Remark: DIN EN ISO 2719
Type of method:
non-equilibrium method closed cup
Flash point:
162 °C
Atm. press.:
101.3 kPa

The measurement gave the following results:

Measurement

Result

Norm conformity

 Status
 #1 Sel  160.3  No  Prelim
#2 Enl  168.1  Yes  Rejected
 #3 Enl  162.1  Yes  OK
 #4 Enl  161.9  Yes OK

Measurement #4 was performed because of the discrepancy between measurements #2 and #3. In view of the result, measurement #2 was rejected as too high. The flash point is taken as the rounded mean value of the two measurements that are in satisfactory agreement (#3 and #4), giving a value of 162 °C. The mean atmospheric pressure was 101.1 kPa for the two selected values; the results quoted are corrected to standard atmospheric pressure, 101.3 kPa. Based on the general experience with the method, the error is quoted as ± 2°C.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The flash point of the test item is 162 ± 2 °C at 101.3 kPa.
Executive summary:

The flash point of the test substance was determined according to EU method A.9 and DIN EN ISO 2719 using a Pensky-Martens apparatus. At 101.3 kPa, the flash point is 162 +/- 2 °C.

Description of key information

The flash point of the test item is 162 ± 2 °C at 101.3 kPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
162 °C

Additional information

The flash point of the test substance was determined according to EU method A.9 and DIN EN ISO 2719 using a Pensky-Martens apparatus. At 101.3 kPa, the flash point is 162 +/- 2 °C.
