Description of key information

Particle size distribution (granulometry) of charcoal was determined by sedimentation following ISO guideline No. 13317-2 (fixed pipette method) and OECD guideline No. 110 in compliance with the principles of GLP. Three charcoal samples (Probe 1: C-Fix = 73.3%, Probe 2: C-Fix = 80.5%, and Probe 3: C-Fix = 88.7%) were tested. Only a very small part of 0.53% to 0.87% (determined by sieving) of the original samples were smaller than 100 µm (= fraction investigated in the study) and only < 0.3% (<0.05% to < 0.29%) of the particles of the original samples were smaller than 10 µm diameter.

Considering the investigated fraction (< 100 µm diameter), less than 30.8% (<4.0% to <30.8%) of the particles are smaller than 10 µm diameter.
