Additional information

There is no available information on toxicokinetics and metabolism of this substance. However, ENB has a log Pow of 3.82, a water solubility of 80 mg/L, a vapor pressure of 5.6 hPa and a molecular weight of 120. Both the log Pow and water solubility favor absorption, and the toxicity seen in acute studies indicates that the compound is absorbed via the oral, dermal and inhalation routes of exposure. The low molecular weight and a log Pow >0 suggest that ENB is likely to be widely distributed throughout the body following intake, a fact that is confirmed from the available data where systemic effects are seen in a variety of organs after repeated administration via oral or inhalation dosing, including the kidney, thyroid, and liver effects. In two repeated dose studies, carried out with unknown purity of ENB, adaptive and reversible changes in the liver indicated metabolism. However in modern studies carried out on ENB of known purity these liver effects were not always seen, so it is uncertain whether the liver is the site of metabolism or not. No information regarding excretion of ENB can be extracted from the available data.
