If released to air, ENB will exist in the vapor phase in the ambient atmosphere based on a reported vapor pressure of 4.2 mmHg (560 Pa) at 20 deg C. In the vapor phase, an atmospheric half-life of 0.87 hour is predicted for ENB due to oxidation by photochemically produced hydroxy radicals. Half-life in the atmosphere due to reaction with ozone is predicted to be 26 min. Hydrolysis of ENB is not expected to occur due to the lack of hydrolyzable functional groups and biodegradation is very slow to none degradable. Fugacity calculation show that >99% of the substance partitions to the atmosphere. Atmospheric degradation is clearly a very important process for the removal of the substance from the environment.
