Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

410 °C

Additional information

The auto-ignition temperature of isobutyl-(S)-lactate was tested in a GLP compliant study according to EU method A.15 (Regulation EC 440/2008), DIN Guide 51794 from May 2003 and the IEC standard 79-4, Part 4, Method of Test for Ignition Temperature from 1975, using a commercially available auto-ignition temperature apparatus. Samples were injected into the heated-up test vessel. The occurrence of clearly perceptible flames and/or explosions served as indication for auto-ignition. Preliminary findings indicate an auto-ignition temperature of 420 °C. The main study refined the final temperature to 410 °C at 1019.0 to 1019.9 hPa. Varying across the sample volumes, the ignition was delayed between 10 and 14 seconds. All flames observed were of orange/blue colour.

The value can be extrapolated to the target substance isobutyl-(R)-lactate without restrictions, since being the optical antipode.
