Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From September 28, 2001 to October 05, 2001
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Parameter:
other: screening study for explosive properties by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in closed glass crucibles ata heating rate of 3 K/min.
Remarks on result:
not thermal sensitive if heated under defined confinement
Remarks:
The main study on explosion properties was not performed as the heat of decomposition, determined by DCS, was <500 J/g

Two measurements in closed glass crucibles (temperature range 30 to 400 and 500°C, respectively) showed an exothermal effect in the range 100- 340°C, with a decomposition energy of 354 J/g and 248 J/g, respectively.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, the test substance was found to be non-explosive.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine explositity according to EU Method A.14, in compliance with GLP.

A preliminary screening study for explosive properties was carried out with the purified test substance by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in closed glass crucibles at a heating rate of 3 K/min.

The heat of decomposition was <500 J/g. Therefore, the main study on explosive properties was not performed.

Under the study conditions, the test substance was found to be non-explosive.

Description of key information

Under the study conditions, the test substance was found to be non-explosive.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive
