Description of key information

There are no “serious or severe toxicity effects” observed in the 90 day study with dicarboxylic acid mixture, the primary toxicological effect is due to the acidic character of the dicarboxylic acid mixture. Nno carcinogenic effects were observed with adipic acid in a long-term study. Glutaric acid and succinic acid are central endogenous metabolites in the amino-acid pathway and the citric acid cycle, respectively, and not expected to be carcinogenic.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Justification for classification or non-classification

No classification is required according to the classification criteria 67/548/EWG and regulation no. 1272/2008 (GHS).

Additional information

Additional sources/reviews cited in chapter "Additional Toxicological Information" support that that no systemic toxicity is anticipated since is the critical effect of dicarboxylic acid mixture is loacal irritation no specific target organ was identified for adipic acid in repeated dose toxicity studies including a limited chronic study.
