Reference
Endpoint:
particle size distribution (granulometry)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
19 November 2014
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: non GLP screening study without detailed documentation.
Justification for type of information:
Determination of appearance by trained personell according to standard inhouse operation procedures.
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 110 (Particle Size Distribution / Fibre Length and Diameter Distributions)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
No detailed description of experimental details available. Study was conducted according to an established inhouse ISO method comparable to the OECD 110 as a non-GLP study.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test item has a rock like appearance (fragments from solidified molten reaction mass). The measurement of the particle size distribution of the test item is neither technically feasable nor scientifically reasonable. As a surrogate the particle size distribution of a typical solid concentrate (as placed on the market - textile auxiliary) is presented.
GLP compliance:
no
Other quality assurance:
other: ISO method for calibration
Type of method:
sieving
Type of particle tested:
aggregate
Type of distribution:
mass based distribution
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Test item with emulsifier was investigated (as placed on the market).

Executive summary:

In the non-GLP Klimisch 2 study the particle size distribution of amidoamine test items in mixtures (solid concentrates including additives as supplied to downstream users were determined by sieving using sieves with a mesh size of 125 to 800 µm. The mass median diameter (MMD) of the test item is calculated to be > 800 µm.

Description of key information

The mass median diameter (MMD) of the test item is calculated to be > 800 µm.

Target and source substances are marketed as solids in prills and flakes form manufactured by pastillation units operating with similar parameters. Therefore solids of Amidoamine 2 (UVCB, low nitrogen) will have a comparable particle size distribution as Amidoamine (UVCB). It is expected that the higher concentration of saturated mono- and diglycerides and the presence of saturated triglycerides in Amidoamine 2 (UVCB, low nitrogen) will have no influence on the particle size distribution (Granulometry).
