The 96-hour LC50 was >1000 mg/l and is therefore considered to be non-toxic to fish at its limit of solubility.

Short term toxicity to fish studies have been conducted for Santicizer 261A but have not been available for review. A study using Rainbow trout was conducted by ABC Laboratories in 1980 and described in a 2006 American Chemistry Council report. There were sufficient details for an assessment to be made. The study reported an LC50 of >1000 mg/L and concluded that Santicizer 261A was non-toxic to Rainbow trout at its water solubility.

Two short term toxicity tests to fish were conducted using the very closely related phthalate Santicizer 278 (CAS RN: 16883 -83 -3), and were used as supporting studies for this endpoint. The reported 96-hour LC50 for Rainbow trout (Analytical Bio Chemistry Laboratories Inc, 1979) was >1000 mg/l (at 12°C), and for Fathead minnows (Analytical Bio Chemistry Laboratories Inc, 1979) also >1000 mg/l (at 22°C). In both tests the concentration used was 1000 mg/l. This concentration was determined by range finding tests to be appropriate as mortalities did not occur below this concentration

This concentration exceeds the solubility of the test compound (0.0015 mg/l at 25°C) but since no mortalities occurred even at this concentration, Santicizer 278 is considered non-toxic to fish at its limit of solubility. Due its structure and properties Santicizer 261A would be expected to give similar results.

 Santicizer 261A is therefore considered to be non-toxic to fish at its limit of solubility based on experimental data, read-across and calculated data.
