Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There are no experimental studies available for this endpoint with Santicizer 261A. Due to the structural similarities of other high molecular weight phthalate esters, it is considered appropriate to read-across to DEHP (CAS RN: 117 -81 -7), DINP (CAS RN: 68515 -48 -0) and DIDP (CAS RN: 68515 -49 -1), for which studies have been conducted.

In the Key Study for read-across, Saeger and Tucker (1976) found that DEHP was readily biodegradable in a CO2 evolution test. Degradation was found to be 86.16% after 28 days.

Sugatt et al (1984) measured primary and ultimate degradation and found that DEHP, DINP and DIDP all underwent >99% primary degradation within 28 days. Mineralisation (ultimate degradation) was 86%, 62% and 56% respectively, in 28 days. O’Grady et al(1985) measured degradation of 81.5% (DEHP), 67.8% (DINP) and 68% (DIDP) in SCAS tests. In die-away tests in the same study, the time taken for DEHP, DINP and DIDP to achieve ≥90% biodegradation was 2-5 days, 5 days, and 9 days respectively. In both the Sugatt and O’Grady studies, degradation of these substances was found to be rapid and extensive.

Based on the similarity in structure, Santicizer 261A is predicted to have a comparable degradation rate to these substances and so Santicizer 261A can be considered to be readily biodegradable
