Additional information

An acute GLP test on green algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata according to OECD guideline 201 was identified as key study (BASF 2008). As the test substance is poorly soluble in water an eluate of three different loading concentrations was tested according to OECD 29. After 72 hours of exposure an EL50 between 10 -100 mg/L was evaluated, the NOEC was estimated to be 10 mg/L, both related to the nominal loading rate.

In a supporting study with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata ECx and NOEC values based on growth rate and yield were determined. In some of the freshly prepared and in some of the aged exposure solutions the concentration of the test item deviated with more than 20 % of the nominal loading rate, thus, all biological endpoints were based on the mean measured concentrations. The EC10 and EC50 based on growth rate were determined to be 5.64 mg/L and 39.3 mg/L, respectively. The EC10 and EC50 based on yield were determined to be 1.90 mg/L and 8.94 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC for growth rate was 7.98 mg/L and for yield - 3.86 mg/L, respectively.
