As the test substance is stable in water and the oxygen concentration did not decrease drastically (i.e. no biodegradation occurred) , it was assumed that the substance was present in the test system in total (either dissolved, dispersed or deposed).

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The 96 h LC50 of 2-Ethyl ethyl capronate in this acute toxicity test with Zebrafish was 173 mg/L.
Executive summary:

In a 96-h acute toxicity study according to ISO 7346 (Determination of the Acute Lethal Toxicity of Substances to a Freshwater Fish - Part 2: Semi-static method), Zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio; new name: Danio rerio), were exposed to 2-Ethyl ethyl capronate (100% a.i.) at nominal concentrations of 0 (control), 100, 300 and 1000 mg/L under semi-static conditions.

No mortality was observed in the control and at 100 mg/L during the 96 h test period. At 300 mg/L 10/10 fish were dead after 24 h; at 1000 mg/L 10/10 fish died within 6 h.

The 96 h LC50 was 173 mg a.i./L.
