Description of key information
No reliable toxicity data to microorganisms are available for Ti metal. A read-across approach between Ti metal and TiO2 is used. The key study is a GLP-conform study by Egeler and Goth (2009) that has been performed according to OECD 209 guideline. No statistically significant inhibitory effect on the respiration rate of the test system was observed up to the largest nominal dose of 1000 mg test item/L. All toxic effect levels (NOEC, EC10 and EC50) are therefore greater than 1000 mg TiO2/L, equivalent to >600 mg Ti/L.
