PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION
- Method: The test substance was directly added to the test water without any pretreatment.
- Evidence of undissolved material (e.g. precipitate, surface film, etc): Undissolved test substance was visible on the surface of the water at all test concentrations, increasing with an increase in the concentration.

CULTIVATION
- The fish were kept in a flow-through tank with tap water.
- The water cleaned and dechlorinated by active carbon.
- The water aerated with oil free air.

- No. of vessels per concentration (replicates): 1
- No. of vessels per control (replicates): 1

TEST MEDIUM / WATER PARAMETERS
- Source/preparation of dilution water: test water was reconstituted freshwater according to DIN 38412, Part II, draft Sep 1981; prepared from fully demineralised tap water (conductivity: max 10 micro MHO) by adding: 294.0 mg/l CaCl2 * 2 H2O, 123.3 mg/l MgSO4 + 7 H2O, 64.8 mg/l NaHCO3, 5.8 mg/l KCl
- Ca/mg ratio: 4:1
- Culture medium different from test medium: no
- Intervals of water quality measurement: at the beginning of the tests and every 24h until end of the test

OTHER TEST CONDITIONS
- Photoperiod: 16:8 light/dark

EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED: Mortality and other symptoms were recorded after 1, 4, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h test duration.
Reference substance (positive control):
yes
Remarks:
chloroacetamide
Key result
Duration:
96 h
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect conc.:
> 500 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mortality (fish)
Details on results:
- Behavioural abnormalities: none
- Mortality of control: none
- Other adverse effects control: none
Results with reference substance (positive control):
LC50 (48 h) = 25 mg/l (this corresponds to normal sensitivity)
Reported statistics and error estimates:
Statistical methods: The median lethal concentration (LC50) was calculated using Probit Analysis (Finney D.J., Probit Analysis, Cambr. Univ. Press, 3rd Edition, 1971)
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
In a acute toxicity test under static conditions, Leuciscus idus showed no mortality to DINA concentrations up to 500 mg/L.

Description of key information

LC50(96h) > 500 mg/L (nominal) for Leuciscus idus (similar to OECD 203)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One study investigating the short-term toxicity of Diisononyl adipate (DINA) to freshwater fish is available. The study was performed according to german standard guideline DIN 38 412 L15 (similar to OECD 203) under static conditions using Leuciscus idus as test organism (BASF 1985). Concentrations between 10 and 500 mg/L were tested without removing undissolved test material from the test system. No mortality was observed in the control and any treatment during the exposure period of 96h. Thus the 96h-LC50 is determined to be > 500 mg/L based on nominal concentrations.
