Description of key information

Key study: Based on read-across approach from experimental results on the analogue Wasox-VMAC2 (OECD Guideline 209, GLP study), the EC50 (3h) for EAC3 in activated sludge was calculated to be > 239.78 mg/L.
Key study: Based on read-across approach from experimental results on the analogue Wasox-MMAC2 (OECD Guideline 209, GLP study), the EC50 (3h) for EAC3 in activated sludge was calculated to be > 248.06 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
239.76 mg/L

Additional information

Key study: Read-across approach from analogue substance Wasox-VMAC2.

A respiration inhibition test was performed on the analogue substance Wasox-VMAC2 in accordance with OECD Guideline 209. Activated sludge from a sewage treatment plant treating predominantly domestic sewage were exposed to 0 (control) 7.6, 19.2, 48.0, 120.0 and 300.0 mg/L Wasox-VMAC for 3 hours. The EC50 (3h) was determined to be > 300 based on the respiration rate. Based on these results, the read-across approach was applied and the EC50 (3h) for EAC3 in activated sludge was estimated to be > 239.76 mg/L.

Key study: Read-across approach from analogue substance Wasox-MMAC2.

A study was performed on the analogue substance Wasox-MMAC2 to estimate possible effects on aerobic microbial sewage treatment plants in accordance with OECD Guideline 209. Activated sludge from a sewage treatment plant treating predominantly domestic sewage were exposed to 0 (control) 7.6, 19.2, 48.0, 120.0 and 300.0 mg/LWasox-MMAC2 for 3 hours. The EC50 (3h) was estimated to be >300 mg/L based on the respiration rate. Based on these results, the read-across approach was applied and the EC50 (3h) for EAC3 in activated sludge was estimated to be > 248.06 mg/L.
