- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The fish were placed to the aquaria 96 hours before the test. The test substance was dissolved in water and was added to the test water. Duration of the test was 96 h. 10 fishes were exposed to 0; 1; 1.25; 1.6; 2; 2.24; 2.5; 4; 6, 3; 10 and 100 mg/L of 4-chlorobenzyl chloride. Water quality parameters (pH, temperature, oxygen content) were determined at time points 0, 2, 24, 72, and 96 hours to be within the acceptable limits.

- From this study, LC50 for p-chlorobenzyl chloride was determined to be 2.24 - 2.5 mg/L.
- Executive summary:
Testing laboratory was Deptm. Pharma Forschung, Toxikologie at Hoechst AG, Frankfurt/Main. A static test with nominal dissolved test substance concentrations was conducted. Duration of the test was 96 h. 10 test organisms were exposed to 0; 1; 1.25; 1.6; 2; 2.24; 2.5; 4; 6.3; 10 and 100 mg/L of 4-chlorobenzyl chloride. Water quality parameters (pH, temperature, oxygen content) were determined at time points 0, 2, 24, 72, and 96 hours to be within the acceptable limits. No lethality occurred in the control group.
At a concentration up to 1.6 mg/L no behavoural abnormalities were observed, no lethality occured till the end of the test.
The highest examined concentration without lethality is 2.24 mg/L after 48 h and 2 mg/L after 96 h.
The lowest examined concentration with 100 % lethality is 2.5 mg/L (after 48 h and 96 h).
As a result, the LC50 value is 2.24 -2.5 mg/L.
