Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Stability

For Sodium-2-formylbenzenesulphonate hydrolysis is not expected to be an important environmental fate process since this compound lacks functional groups that hydrolyze under environmental conditions. The only reactive group is the aldehyde that may oxidize to carboxylic acid. The resulting substance is of no concern.

Biodegradation

No experimental data are available regarding biodegradability of Sodium 2-formylbenzenesulphonate.

Ready biodegradability is predicted for Sodium 2-formylbenzenesulphonate by BIOWIN v.4.10.

Bioaccumulation

No experimental data is available regarding bioaccumulation of Sodium 2-formylbenzenesulphonate.

Low potential of bioconcentration is predicted for Sodium 2-formylbenzenesulphonate by BCFBAF v.3.01 (log BCF = 0.5; BCF = 3.162 l/kg wet-wt). Also the predicted value of log Kow = -3.23 by EPI Suite v.4.1 (see section 4.7 of this IUCLID dossier) is of no concern regarding bioaccumulation.

Transport and distribution

Column 2 of REACH Annexes VIII and IX provides the following exemptions: "The study does not need to be conducted if based on the physicochemical properties the substance can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption (e.g. the substance has a low octanol water partition coefficient)"

Sodium 2-formylbenzenesulphonate has got log Kow = -3.23 which can be considered of no concern.
