Additional information

White liquor consists of water soluble inorganic ionic constituents, i.e. sodium, potassium and calcium hydroxides, carbonates, sulfides, tiosulfates and sulfates together with some minor constituents. Each of the elements and ionic species have substance specific environmental transport and distribution properties. In general, the constituents partition predominantly to aquatic environment and adsorption to soils and sediments is not high. Volatility of these water soluble constituents to atmosphere is low. In long term, the constituents undergo abiotic and biotic transformations in the environment that affect the environmental fate properties of the constituents (oxidation/reduction, adsorption/desorption, precipitation).
