Description of key information

The 10-day LC50 for Corophium volutator was calculated as > 10000 mg/Kg, based on nominal sediment concentrations.  All parameters measured in this study lay within acceptable tolerance limits.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 or LC50 for marine water sediment:
10 000 mg/kg sediment dw

Additional information

The acute toxicity of the test substance, organolignite, to sediment reworker, Corophium volutator, was determined in accordance with test method PARCOM (1995). Invertebrates were exposed in semi-static conditions for 10 days to nominal sediment concentrations of 1000.0, 1778.0, 3162.3, 5623.4, and 10000 mg/Kg. The 10-day LC50 was determined to be > 10000 mg/Kg. No deviations to study protocol were noted except that no parameters or observations were conducted on day 1 of the study.
