Description of key information

A flash point ≥ 196°C was assumed for the target substance Docosyl methacrylate at 1013 hPa based on a read-across approach.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
196 °C

Additional information

In a valid guideline study according to EU test method A9 the flash point for the structural analogue C16-20-alkyl esters is reported to be 117°C at 1013 hPa (Evonik UNTER 09 -037). In addition, a reliable value for the flash point of the structural analogue Octadecyl methacrylate is reported to be 183°C at 1013 hPa (Pensky-Martens closed cup) according to ASTM D. 93-52 (standard atmospheric pressure assumed). A second investigation using the same test item showed a flash point of 200°C at 1013 hPa (Cleveland open cup) according to ASTM D. 92-52 (Alf Atochem (Arkema) LIT SU 95-0563). A reliable handbook value for the structural analogue Octadecyl methacrylate is reported to be 196 °C at 1013 hPa (Brandes E, Möller W, 2003). All data are regarded as reliable. A flash point ≥ 196°C was assumed for the target substance Docosyl methacrylate.
