Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:
There are no data available for hydrocarbons, C13-C20, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, 40-60% aromatics. However, there is data for an analogue substance.

The skin sensitizing potential of straight run kerosene was tested negative in a Buehler test under GLP conditions by American Petroleum Institute 1985.Using this data as read across, C13-C20 aliphatic and cyclic, 40-60% aromatic hydrocarbons fluids were determined not to be skin sensitizers.

The following information is taken into account for any hazard / risk assessment:

Based on read-across from the structurally related substance straight run kerosene, hydrocarbons, C13-C20, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, 40-60% aromatics are not considered to be a skin sensitizer.

Value used for CSA: not sensitising

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Based on read-across from structurally related substance straight run kerosene, hydrocarbons, C13-C20, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, 40-60% aromatics are not considered to be a skin sensitizer.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

There are no reports of respiratory sensitization from hydrocarbons, C13-C20, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, 40-60% aromatics in laboratory animals or humans.

The following information is taken into account for any hazard / risk assessment:

Hydrocarbons, C13-C20, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, 40-60% aromatics are not expected to be a respiratory sensitizing agent.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
hydrocarbons, C13-C20, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, 40-60% aromatics are not expected to be a respiratory sensitizing agent.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on read-across from a structurally related substance, the available data on the skin sensitisation potential of hydrocarbons C13-C20, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, 40-60% aromatics are conclusive but not sufficient for classification.
