Description of key information

Short-term and long-term aquatic toxicity studies have been performed on species from three trophic levels. The end-points are presented, as follows :

Acute Fish (O. mykiss gill cells):

LC50 = 1.89 mg/L

NOEC = 0.97 mg/L

Acute Daphnia Immobilisation (D. magna) :

48hr EC50 = 0.076 mg/L

48hr EC0 = 0.029 mg/L

Algal Inhibition (P. subcapitata) :

72 hr ErC50 > 0.11 mg/L

72 hr ErC10 = 0.028 mg/L

72 hr NOErC = 0.023 mg/L

72 hr EyC50 = 0.072 mg/L

72 hr EyC10 = 0.040 mg/L

72 hr NOEyC = 0.023 mg/L

Long-Term Fish (P. promelas) :

NOEC > = 0.79 mg/L

Long-Term Freshwater Invertebrate (C. dubia) :

NOEC = 0.1 mg/L

The most sensitive species from the long-term studies is algae with an ErC10 of 0.028 mg/L. The PNEC-freshwater based on the available data is, therefore, 2.8 ppb (i.e. 0.028 mg/L with an Assessment Factor of 10 applied).
