Description of key information

Fish, short-term:

In a 120-h acute toxicity study according to OECD Guideline 203, Japanese rice fish (Oryzias latipes) were exposed under semi-static conditions to analytically measured test concentrations of ethylcyclohexane.

The 96h-EC50 was 0.746 mg/l based on the geometric mean value of the measured concentrations (95% confidence interval between 0.606–0.971 mg/L).

Aquatic invertebrates. short-term:

In a 48-h acute toxicity study according to OECD Guideline 202, water fleas (Daphia magna) were exposed under semi-static conditions to analytically measured test concentrations of ethylcyclohexane.

The 48h-EC50 was 0.67 mg/l based on the geometric mean value of the measured concentrations (95% confidence interval between 0.485–0.975 mg/L).

Aquatic algae:

The toxicity of ethylcyclohexane to the unicellular freshwater green alga Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata was determined according to the principles of OECD guideline 201.

The 72-hour EC50 value for growth rate reduction (ErC50) was 0.63 mg/L and the NOEC was 0.218 mg/L respectively.

Microorganism:

The inhibition of the respiration of activated sludge when exposed to ethylcyclohexane was determined according to OECD Guideline 209. The following results for the test item Ethylcyclohexane were determined:

3h NOEC = 320 mg/L

3h EC10 = 300 mg/L

3h EC50 > 1000 mg/L
