2015-11-02 to 2015-12-04
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
flask method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Storage conditions: ambient temperature (10 to 30 °C)
Key result
Water solubility:
428 g/L
Conc. based on:
other: dissolved ammonium concentration
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
6.2
Remarks on result:
other: water solubility was determined in 3 experiments with different stirring times (individual concentrations of test substance: 431.3 g/L; 425.7 g/L; 427.2 g/L). Concentration of blank value was < 0.001 g/L

Results of preliminary study

To 57.9 mg of test substance 0.1 mL water was added. By visual examination substance did not dissolve. Adding further 0.4 ml water substance dissolves. Therefore estimated solubility was in the range between 116 g/L and 579 g/L. In a stirring test maximum amount of substance that could be stirred was determined. About 2500 g/L test substance could be stirred.

Main test/ Flask method

In the flask test about 28 g of substance were dissolved in 10 mL water. Measured value of ammonium concentration has only small variation within the 3 tests with different stirring times. Solution does not depend from stirring time. Measured pH value varies slightly (6.3, 6.2, 6.2 in the different experiments).

Description of key information

428 g/L at 20 °C and pH 6.2 (OECD 105, flask method)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
428 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

In a study carried out in GLP-like setting according to OECD Guideline 105 and EU Method A.6 water solubility of ammoniumtartrate (reinst) was determined. The test was ran as a flask test at 20°C and a pH value of 6.2 with 3 different steering times showing only small variations between the tests. This test was confirmed by a preliminary test of visual examination of the mixture with an estimated water solubility between 116g/l and 579 g/l.
