Appearance / physical state / colour:

On the basis of physical observation, the chemical Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was observed to be off white coloured powder in appearance.

Melting point/ Freezing point:

The mean decomposition temperature range of Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was found be 317.5-321.5°C at 977.3hPa.

Boiling point:

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid which decomposes before boiling.

Density:

The mean density of  Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) test item was determined to be 1.5731 g/cm³ at 20°C and 976.4 hPa.

Particle size distribution (Granulometry):

The particle size distribution of test item Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 75 micron.

Vapour pressure:

The estimated vapour pressure of Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was 0.000413 Pa at 25 deg C.

Partition coefficient:

The partition coefficient(n-octanol/water) of test substance Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was determined as per the HPLC method (OECD Guideline-117). The Log Pow value was determined to be 0.8556 ± 0.0456 at 25°C.

Water solubility:

The water solubility for the test item Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate was found to be 3705.655 mg/L at 30°C.

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) is used for laboratory research and manufacturing uses ,etc. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.

Flash point:

The mean flash point of Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) is 138.6°C at 977.1hPa.

Autoflammability:

Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) is not flammable at high temperature. The test was conducted in replicates and mean decomposition temperature range was found to be 317.5-321.5°C at 977.3 hPa.

Density:

The density of test item Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the Adapted from ASTM D854-02 using glass pyknometer. The mean density of test item was determined to be 1.5731 g/cm³ at 20°C and 976.4 hPa.

Other supporting data from authoritative database, also determined the density of chemical Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate as 1.548 g/cm3 at -173.16 degree C.

Particle size distribution (Granulometry):

The particle size distribution of test item Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 75 micron.

Vapour pressure:

Modified Grain method was used to estimate the vapour pressure of Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) using MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE. The estimated vapour pressure of Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was 0.000413 Pa at 25 deg C.

Partition coefficient:

The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No.16245-77-5) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to functional group similarity with the test substance and calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were benzene, biphenyl, 2,6- Diphenylpyridine, Triphenylamine, 4-Acetylpyridine, Diphenylamine, toluene, ethylbenzene, N-butylbenzene and naphthalene having Pow value ranging from 0.5 to 5.7. The Log Pow value was determined to be 0.8556 ± 0.0456 at 25°C. By considering this log Pow value it can be concluded that test chemical Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (16245-77-5) is hydrophilic in nature.

Water solubility:

The water solubility determination of test itemBenzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS No. 16245-77-5) was done as per the OECD guideline 105 and by spectrophotometric analytical method as per OECD 101. The solubility of Benzene-1,4-diammonium sulphate (CAS: 16245-77-5) in water was determined to be 3705.655 mg/L at 30°C. Hence on the basis of experimental value the given chemical is considered to be soluble in water.
