Description of key information

Hydroxypropyl methacrylate is readily biodegradable and has a low potential to bioaccumulate in organisms or to adsorb to soil or sediment.

Additional information

Hydroxypropyl methacrylate has high water solubility (130 g/L at 25 deg C), a low vapor pressure (0.11 hPa at 20 deg C), and low log Kow (0.97 at 20 deg C). The substance has a low potential for adsorption to soil or sediments or bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms, and a low potential to volatilize from water or soil to the atmosphere. The substance is hydrolytically stable in water under acidic conditions, and the rate of hydrolysis increases as the pH is increased. The compound meets the criteria of ready biodegradability in an OECD 301C and 301E tests. Upon release to the atmosphere the substance will react with hydroxyl radicals with a predicted half-life of 0.6 days.
