Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a flow-through system for 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) a BCF of < 0.8 (0.1 mg/L) - < 8 (0.01 mg/L) was determined on Cyprinus carpio within 6 weeks (MITI 1992), and hence MBT is not bioaccumulative. The described metabolites from MBT are also non-bioaccumulative (BCF<100) (EU-risk assessment, 2008).

Additional information

The MITI-test was the only available test which reported a BCF-value (MITI 1992). Another test from Hashimoto (1978) reported that fish which were fed with benzothiazole-2-thiol showed 100 % excretion of 2-mercaptobenzothiazol after 72 hours.
