Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The acute toxicity of Tetrahydro-3-methylfuran to freshwater fish has been tested under a protocol equivalent or similar to the OECD 203 guideline method under static conditions with juvenile fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) which yielded a 96 hour LC50 value of 1110 mg/L (DuPont, 1986). In addition, testing on a structural analog, tetrahydrofuran (CAS# 109-99-9), under similar conditions yieled 96 hour LC50 values of 2160 mg/L (Brooke, 1984) under flow-through conditions and 3,800 mg/L (DuPont, 1982) under static conditions; suggesting that tetrahydro-3-methylfuran is roughly 2 times more toxic than the analog substance. This is supported by QSAR modeling using U.S. EPA ECOSAR (v1.1) as demonstrated in the justification for read-across (INVISTA, 2012). Taken together, these data indicate that tetrahydro-3-methylfuran has a low degree of toxicity to freshwater fish.
