Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A number of reliable studies are available that can be read across from the maleated rosin and the maleated fatty acid components of Distilled tall oil, maleated.
Two reliable studies are available for the maleated rosin component of Distilled tall oil, maleated. Both reported EC50 values greater than the highest concentration tested and the lowest NOEC value was 32 mg/L.
One study is available for the maleated fatty acid component of Distilled tall oil, maleated. The EC50 was determined to be >1000 mg/L and the NOEC 1000 mg/L.
The worst case NOEC of 32 mg/L is used to derive the PNEC STP for Distilled tall oil, maleated.

Additional information

Distilled tall oil, maleated is a UVCB substance comprising a maleated rosin component and a maleated fatty acid component.

For the maleated rosin component of Distilled tall oil, maleated data are read across from maleated rosin substances.

The results for resin acids and rosin acids, maleated, calcium salts and resin acids and rosin acids, maleated, sodium salts are taken from GLP-compliant studies following OECD guideline 209 (Laus 2013a, Laus 2013b). The EC50 for both substances was determined to be greater than the highest test concentration, for resin acids and rosin acids, maleated, calcium salts the result was >1000 mg/L, for resin acids and rosin acids, maleated, sodium salts the result was >11000 mg/L (extrapolated). The NOEC for resin acids and rosin acids, maleated, calcium salts was determined to be 1000 mg/L and the NOEC for resin acids and rosin acids, maleated, sodium salts was determined to be 32 mg/L.

In order to provide data on the maleated fatty acid component of Distilled tall oil, maleated data are read across from the substance Fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsaturated, maleated.

A study for fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18, unsaturated, maleated following OECD test guideline 209 was carried out (Eisner 2012). The 3-hour EC50 for fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18, unsaturated, maleated was determined to be >1000 mg/L. The NOEC was determined to be 1000 mg/L.

The worst case NOEC of 32 mg/L is used to derive the PNEC STP for Distilled tall oil, maleated.
