The biodegradability and potential for bioconcentration of the reaction mass of maleic acid and phtalic acid as produced (reaction mass in 90% water) have not been assessed as such due to the nature of the constituents, their low concentration in water and the confinement of the installation in the plant.

However, based on publicly available information of the individual components, it can be concluded that the reaction mass is neither persistent nor prone to bioaccumulate, therefore it does not trigger any classification such as R53 or Aquatic Chronic Category 4
